I wanted to wait until this coming Saturday (May 1st) to write this so that I could say something cheesy like, "We'll be starting back up in the next month or so." Instead, I'll just say that the as-yet-undetermined restart date is single-digit weeks away. I'm not really sure how many weeks. If I knew, I would tell you. There are still a few factors in play, a couple of which are out of my control. (They involve policies of the venue and of Pima County.) We need COVID cases and deaths to be down to low levels and we need vaccination numbers to be high.
We won't start up until we can have the people on the court playing without masks (if they so desire). We have to figure out a way to make it so that there is little to no chance that anybody can get sick. (Every season, the League has always either broken even or lost money. We can't afford lawsuits.) We also have to coordinate the schedule with that of the venue. They have all those truly-awful youth basketball tournaments to squeeze in. (I wonder if they're going to limit the number of non-players who can be in the building during those games. That would be interesting.)
I've had a couple long-time members of the League take me to task for my recalcitrance, but the League has survived for a third of a century because we (at least try to) do things right. I can't wait to get back in the gym. And for all of you newcomers whose emails I have yet to answer, I promise that I'll get to them this week. Thanks.
