Strange Day in the Tucson Basketball League

October 24th, 2021

Where last week was defined by buzzer beaters, overtime games, and one-point wins, this week was Blowout City. The matchups going in seemed pretty decent, but there were some monster performance by some of the teams. For example:

--GGTM 65, Basketball Junkies 50 - This looked to be a premiere matchup of top-division teams, with the winner taking over first place in the BOB-OMB BATTLEFIELD Division (oh, those zany Super Mario names!). The Basketball Junkies had started off the season like gangbusters, winning three straight before dropping a game to the defending champions, The Hawgs. But this game wasn't even close. Fred Simms had 20 points on five threes to pace GGTM, which controlled the game from start to finish. Dom Banks added 16 points for the winners, while Jason Timpf led the Junkies with a double-double (18 and 10).

--Redmen 46, The Expendables 45 - Roland Ramon led a balanced scoring attack for Redmen, who overcame a first-half deficit to build a comfortable lead. But then something crazy happened. With the Redmen holding a nine-point lead with less than a minute to go, Adam Garcia banked in a long three for The Expendables. Then, after a steal, he banked in another one. The Redmen hit one free throw to go up by four before Garcia hit ANOTHER three to cut the final margin to one. It was amazing!

--Ball Boys 59, Dad Bods 57 - The Ball Boys got 33 points from Brandon Caro and 16 rebounds from Dennis Boyd and that was just enough to hold off the Dad Bods.

--1 National Championship Drive 73, Handles 69 - This one actually went down to the buzzer. Adam Gonzalez scored 27 points on six threes to to pace 1 National. Chad Arechiga chipped in with 23 points, also hitting six threes. Erasmo Tanori led Handles with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
