I know that I am occasionally given to crow about the abundance of close games that we have on certain days in the Tucson Basketball League. Of course, my dream is to have a day in which every game is decided by five points or fewer. While I spend a considerable amount of time trying to schedule games that should be close matchups, that "perfect" days is almost certainly never going to happen. Too many things would have to go right.
A couple Sundays ago was pretty good. We had some scores like 70-68, 79-77, 65-63 and 43-42. This past Sunday, we had 46-45, 67-66, 74-73, and 53-51. On Court 2, the first three games of the day had scores of 58-56, 53-51 (a different game from the aforementioned 53-51), and 63-61. That's pretty cool. However, we also had a couple absolute stinkers. One game ended 70-37 and the other was 90-41! Those are at least partly (and probably mainly) my fault and I feel bad.
As mentioned before, we're a week ahead of schedule this season, due mainly to my boneheaded decision to start the season on August 31, Labor Day Weekend. One might think that after 37 years of doing this (plus a degree in Math), I would be able to count the weeks in a season. But, a slight dip in the number of teams playing this season, combined with a few weeks where we had additional court availability helped us finish a week ahead of schedule. You can use that extra Sunday in December to get in your Christmas shopping. And I can watch my beloved Rams dominate the entire NFL.
