So, let's say that on one court on one day of the Tucson Basketball League, we start off with a 49-48 game, followed by 42-39, and then 43-37. Later in the day, we have an 86-85 game and close out the slate with an 87-86 game. Seems like a really good day of basketball. But what if none of that was the highlight of the day? As it turns out, we had something happen that would qualify as The Play of the Season, if not the Play of the Year. Late in the 1:00 game, Splash Pad, the defending top Division champions, found themselves tied up with Cemented, a new team this season. With just a few seconds left on the clock, Splash Pad inbounded the ball near their basket. There was a scramble for the ball. Johnnie Newsome of Cemented grabbed the loose ball, took one step and fired a 70-footer that hit dead bottom! Cemented won, 58-55.
In other games:
--Alex Arispe just missed going for a half-a-hundred to lead Lobos to an 81-66 win over Icy Hots. Alex hit nine three-pointers to go with 11 twos. Somewhat amazingly, he didn't shoot any free throws. Garrett Jackson led Icy Hots with 19 points.
--Anthony Vogt had 24 points and seven rebounds for Smokin' 3s, but his squad fell, 42-39, the The Bullockz.
--In Storm's 87-86 win over Wolves, the trio of Ryan Valdez, Xander Rodriguez, and Marcus Valdez combined for 78 points.
