An Extra-Special Sunday Coming Up

October 6th, 2026

This past Sunday on Court 2 (Tom's Court), the day got off to a great start with the Mansfield Ballers slipped past Moon Skippers, 49-46. Then, Midday Buckets held off a furious rally by Tucson All-Stars to come away with a 72-68 victory. In the next four games, Serpientes beat NOVA, 55-52; YSL got past The Vets, 68-65; AZ Knights beat Bantu Bandits, 74-73; and Doomsday beat Drizzling Twos, 46-44. But it was the penultimate game on Tom's Court that captured the soul and the essence of the Tucson Basketball League.

At 7:00, Wicked faced off against Los Hoopers. Both teams brought along squads of wild fans. It was a tight game throughout, with the fans reacting to every made shot and missed shot and rebound. It was raucous and exciting and it reminded me of the majesty of the League. That many people having that much fun was really amazing.

All that is great, but it's what we come to expect that on a weekly basis. This coming Sunday, however, is extra-special. Martin Ceballos of The Lobos asked for a bye this week because...HE'S MARRYING HIS BELOVED JULISSA! That's probably a good reason for a bye.

I was going to offer him some marital advice, but my wife and I have only been married for 48 years, so we're not sure that it's going to work out. Best wishes to Martin and Julissa.
